Why Study Rock and Blues Guitar Online? - My Teaching Philosophy

rock and blues guitar lessons

Rock and Blues Guitar Lessons – When I started playing electric guitar, my influences were the classic rock and blues legends, including Jimmy Page, Hendrix, and Jeff Beck. In addition, I explored the great blues guitarists like Freddie King, Buddy Guy, and Robert Johnson.

Over the years, I’ve come across many other talented rock and blues players, both well-known and lesser-known, all of whom have affected my growth and later, that of my guitar students. If rock and blues guitar is therefore your interest, we will likely connect really well!

If you’ve found this website, then it’s likely you want to enhance your guitar skills. My Rock and Blues Guitar Lessons target guitarists with some experience, possibly even several years, looking to elevate their musicianship. My primary objective is to clarify why I believe my lessons will improve your guitar playing. What follows illustrates my motivation to teach daily and why I still find joy in each and every lesson after 30+ years!

I teach numerous students who have faced challenges learning solely online or through method books, often incurring significant expenses. I believe that an effective music education comes from working with a supportive teacher, as it has been for me with several great tutors throughout the years.

In summary, what follows is broadly what I provide to my online guitar students and also reflects my teaching approach on guitar, whether it’s Rock, Blues, or JazzIf anything in my message reflects your musical journey or goals, feel free to reach out; as I believe we would work well together!

cover3d 2158100 11If you are serious about becoming a better guitarist, then you have to know your instrument and know it well. I emphasise a thorough understanding of scales, arpeggios and chords on the fingerboard in all keys. Hard work?….of course, but the results are well worth the effort believe me!

Play and practice real music, not just exercises or patterns. This is crucial to my teaching methodology. Music is all about emotion and therefore I emphasise playing the music that you really love even when you practice.

Plan your musical development carefully. I address this all the time with my students as I do within my own practice. You have to know where you are currently as a musician and where you want to be in the future to progress.

Listen, listen and listen again! Study the real masters of the guitar and of other instruments. I do this with all my students and regularly work on recommended listening with all of them.

Develop your ears (ear training) and rhythmic awareness. Probably the two most important areas I work on with most students.

Work hard but have fun too. Being dedicated to becoming a better guitarist is great but it mustn’t become a chore. I always emphasise finding creative and fun ways to practice something so that you look forward to working on it.

Oh, one final point: Teaching online means you can stay home to study and learn from anywhere in the world!

Rock and Blues Guitar Lessons - Overview

My rock and blues guitar lessons are designed to help you develop quickly and within a proven and effective program of musical study. It is however very important that you practice the lesson material on a daily basis for at least an hour and preferably more. We can of course discuss a practice routine and also how to prioritise your most important musical goals.

All online rock and blues guitar lessons are of one hour’s duration and are fully supported by clearly notated PDF notes and MP3 backing tracks. I also offer email support (between lessons) if you have any questions relating directly to the lesson material we’ve discussed.

All my guitar lessons can also now be recorded and delivered to you within a few seconds after the lesson has finished as an MP4 video file for future reference.

Unfortunately, I don’t teach complete beginners currently, so some prior knowledge of at least basic chord forms, scales and arpeggios would certainly be advisable for you to gain the maximum benefit from these lessons.
